The blind and visually impaired people can use a unique relief map of Prague

The detailed maps cover the whole capital of Prague and Prague heritage site with important monuments such as Prague Castle, Wenceslas Square, Old Town Square and the Main Station Area.

The maps are available in information centres, at schools, libraries and in the association of the blind and visually impaired.

The relief map comes in A3 notebook format, in 15 types of map, and is printed on specially pressed thin plastic. The blind can read the map using various layers, rasters as well as other three-dimensional elements, such as points and lines. The symbols used in the maps meet world standards. Important orientation points, monuments, streets and metro lines, along with Braille inscriptions all serve to colour the tangible picture of the city offered to those using the map. To make it more accessible to international visitors, the key in Braille relief is also provided in English.

The preparation and realization of the maps is very difficult and time consuming.

The areas presented on the maps are depending on the blind people requirements.

The relief map would diminish "the information deficit" caused by this handicap. No verbal explanation can replace a map.

The maps are made by Ing. Dana and Radka Fuxova.
