Prague Castle displays newly purchased paintings by Kamil Lhoták

11.2.2019 — For almost 11 million CZK, Prague Castle Administration bought two paintings by the well-known Czech painter Kamil Lhoták (1912-1990). The paintings will be exhibited at the Picture Gallery at the 2nd Courtyard of Prague Castle until February 28th.

City of Prague acknowledges blood donors at Prague Symphony Orchestra (FOK) gala concert

30.9.2019 — The Czech capital wants to thank blood donors by inviting them to the first of three Prague Symphony Orchestra (FOK) concerts at the end of September. City representatives and representatives of the Czech Red Cross Regional Organisation (CRC) will also receive the Jánský Gold Medal, which is traditionally given to donors who give blood 40 times. Subsequent concerts are scheduled for February and May next year.

Prague Zoo is the only zoo that breeds rare Texas tortoise in Europe

18.8.2020 — The vulnerable Texas tortoise is a species of tortoise in the Testudinidae family, and one of six species of tortoises in the Gopherus genus, commonly referred to as gopher tortoises. They are native to North America, in southern US and northern Mexico. Prague Zoo, which is the only zoo in Europe that successfully breeds this species, celebrated the birth of a new hatchling in the second half of July. Texas tortoises inhabit deep burrows, which they dig with their strong claws and flattened front legs. However, they prefer to use pre-dug mammal burrows. Prague Zoo has kept a group of these interesting tortoises in the Sonora exhibit in the Pavilion of Beasts and Reptiles since 2007. The first hatchlings were born in 2010.

Prague Writer’s Festival 2020

6.10.2020 — The international literary festival in Prague has been introducing the world's most renowned writers and the best world literature for the past 30 years. The Prague Writer's Festival will take place between the 7th and the 11th of October in the Convent of St. Agnes and Rock Café this year.

Prague Proms welcomes exceptional artists

17.5.2019 — On the 18th of May 2019, the next annual Prague Proms International Festival, a prominent summer gala by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, will start. Visitors will enjoy great concerts of classical, film and jazz music. The annual participation of top foreign artists is evidence that this is a prestigious project. Celebrities such as opera singer Edita Gruber, conductor Marcello Rota, Swedish trumpeter Lasse Lingren, saxophonist Brandford Marsalise and his Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra - one of the best active big bands in the world, phenomenal soprano Anna Netrebko, and the big band Buddy Roche all accepted the invitation, along with many other big-name artists.

30.8.2019 — The Environmental Protection Department of Prague City Hall was in charge of repairing a neglected part of Květnice Garden, costing 2.8 million CZK. The garden is part of Petřín Park (Petřínské sady) and is located above Nebozízek in the proximity of the Rose Orchard (Růžový sad).

The Czech capital city is also known as the City of a Hundred Spires ('Stověžatá Praha'). Prague under the spell of Christmas markets

17.12.2018 — The season of Advent, the four weeks leading into Christmas, is the time of Christmas markets where people are purchasing gifts for their loved ones and absorbing the Christmas atmosphere. Where will you find them in Prague? Traditionally, the largest two markets are in Staroměstské náměstí (Old Town Square) and Václavské náměstí (Wenceslas Square). This year's theme of the markets is fairy tales. The fairy tale motifs can be seen in the decorations. The daily performances on the stage in the Old Town Square is in line with the fairy tales theme. They will continue right through until the 6th of January 2019.

New entrance to the Botanical Garden in Troja

19.10.2020 — A barrier-free entrance to Prague Botanical Garden was opened in the southern part of St. Claire's Vineyard at the end of September. The garden had been planning to build a new entrance for several years, and their waiting has finally paid off. From now on, visitors can comfortably enter St. Claire's Vineyard directly from Trojská Street, at the intersection between the vineyard walls and Troja Château, where the Kovárna bus stop is conveniently situated.

Interesting sculptures on Charles Square

28.9.2020 — Prague City Gallery manages several dozen public sculptures. Some of them can be found in Charles Square (Karlovo náměstí) in the city centre. Some of the most famous among them are the statue of the scientist, doctor, scholar and biologist Jan Evangelista Purkyně, the statue of the writer Eliška Krásnohorská and the statue of the writer Karolina Světlá.

New Russian art exhibition in DOX

23.10.2019 — A new exhibition, 'Russia. Timeless', is running in DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Holešovice in Prague until the 2nd of December. The exhibition introduces strong artistic opinions from contemporary Russia. "The exhibition shows the theme of timelessness over the past sixty years by artists of different generations and aesthetic beliefs. We want them to stand side by side and together, without categorising them as more or less important than each other. Each visitor can decide that for themselves and according to their own opinion," Tomáš Glanc, one of the exhibition's curators, said.

One hundred important personalities have planted trees on the trail in the Botanical Garden

31.12.2019 — For the past ten years, Prague Botanical Garden has been running a unique project called 'Kořeny osobností' (Roots of Personalities), where important public figures plant a rare tree on 'Stezka osobností' (Trail of Personalities). The hundredth tree has recently been planted.

23.4.2019 — The Central Library in Mariánské Square introduces photographs of the world's cultural and natural sites protected by UNESCO. This exhibition of unique photographs from the project of the creator, RNDr. Milena Blažková, will last until the 27th of April 2019.

Conifers in Prague Botanical Garden

30.7.2020 — Summer 2020 in Prague Botanical Garden is dedicated to conifers. Araucaria, Podocarpus, and Agathis (commonly known as kauri or dammara) are not the names of mythical animals, but of conifers that the garden will introduce as part of an exhibition that will take place until the end of August. Children will have the opportunity to learn all about conifers with characters from 'Čtyřlístek', popular Czech comic books for children.

Czech Academy of Agricultural Sciences Open Day

15.10.2019 — On the 16th of October, the Czech Academy of Agricultural Sciences will hold an Open Day. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the academy's historic building in Vinohrady in Prague, built in the 1920s by the Czech architect Josef Gočár, and learn about the history of the academy. The open day is part of the academy's 95th anniversary celebrations.

25.11.2019 — On Saturday, the 14th of December 2019, the fourth annual charity Christmas Night Run will take place in the centre of Prague. This 5km-long race will start and finish in front of Rudolfinum at Palachovo Square.
