28.11.2019 — For the seventh time, Mittel Cinema Fest 2019 will bring the finest films from the Apennine Peninsula to audiences in Prague. A total of eight Italian films, along with a concert of film music, will take place in the Lucerna Cinema from the 28th of November to the 4th of December.

Beautiful but deadly Amazon poison dart frogs

16.9.2020 — Visitors to Prague Zoo can admire a collection of thirty species of poison dart frogs in the Gočár Houses Gallery until the end of October. Guided tours and workshops will take place throughout the exhibition. Poison dart frog is the common name for a group of frogs in the Dendrobatidae family which are native to tropical Central and South America. Despite their small size of only few centimetres, poison dart frogs are not only fascinating, but also truly deadly frogs. Only a fleeting touch of the frog can be fatal to a predator, and a tiny droplet of their poison can kill an animal the size of a horse. Moreover, these frogs do not excrete only one type of poison, but a mixture of several different toxic substances.

10.3.2019 — Lectures on new discoveries in neuroscience, as well as an accompanying programme that popularises this research, will take place during 'Týden mozku' (The Week of Brain), from the 11th to the 17th of March 2019.

12.6.2020 — Czech Railways have prepared nostalgic train rides for the coming weekend, the 13th and 14th of June. The Čtyřkolák steam engine will bring passengers on a historic train journey on a romantic route through the Prokopské Valley and the Prague Semmering.

Prague City Council approve Negrelli Viaduct renovations

29.6.2019 — The extensive reconstruction of the Negrelli Viaduct, the second oldest bridge in Prague, will be followed by the transformation of the bridge's surrounding area, including the space beneath it. According to the proposal recently approved by Prague City Council, a new creative space with cafes, a library, and/or a summer theatre space could be developed under the viaduct.

Free tours of Prague to celebrate International Tourist Guide Day

16.2.2019 — On the 23rd of February 2019, the Czech Republic Guides Association will offer free guided tours to celebrate the International Tourist Guide Day. The International Tourist Guide Day is held annually on the 21st of February since 1985. Because the 21st is a Thursday, tour guides in most places decided to give free guided tours on Friday the 22nd or Saturday the 23rd of February. The event will take place throughout the Czech Republic. In Prague, tourists will have a choice between two guided tours.

Czech singer Tereza Krippnerová will sing songs of the jazz legend Nina Simone at the Reduta Jazz Club

23.1.2020 — On the 25th of January, Reduta Jazz Club in Prague will host a concert of the Czech singer Tereza Krippnerová, who will sing music of the American singer, pianist and author Nina Simone. The concert will be part of the concert series 'Tribute to World Legends', which reminds audiences attending concerts at the Reduta Jazz Club of outstanding personalities of international jazz. This time, the evening will belong to the legacy of Nina Simone.

23.2.2020 — From the 24th of February to the end of July 2020, Malešická Street in Prague 10 will be closed to public and private transport between the intersection with K Červenému dvoru Street and the intersection with Olgy Havlové Street due to major reconstructions in this section.

6.12.2021 — Praha podpoří další projekty na podporu sociálních služeb z pražského operačního programu. Rada hl. m. Prahy dnes na svém pravidelném zasedání odsouhlasila investice do devíti projektů, jejichž společným cílem je podpora komunitního života, sociálního bydlení nebo problematika lidí bez domova. Projekty budou financovány prostřednictvím Operačního programu Praha - Pól růstu ve výši 63 milionu korun.

Sail on a historic boat on the Vltava River

30.7.2020 — The residents of Prague will have the opportunity to sail down the Vltava River in a replica of a traditional boat called a 'šíf'. It is a large wooden boat, similar to a barge, which has been used to transport cargo including stones, sand, salt, grain and beer for centuries. This particular 'šíf' was built two years ago with support from Vltavan Čechy, a union which connects Vltava River associations from Prague, Davle, Štěchovice and Purkarec.

Old Town Hall to open on Monday with 50% admission discount

10.5.2020 — The Old Town Hall will reopen after two months, at 11am on Monday the 11th of May. There will be a 50% discount on admission and guided tours will be available by appointment from the 25th of May.

More events to support the development of Prague’s quays

10.2.2019 — This year, the capital plans to continue renewing the quays. The Prague Councillor for Property, Jan Chabr, wants to support more public events for children and families, during the winter as well as the summer. For example, on Saturday 2nd February, traditional farmers' markets will start on Rašínovo nábřeží quay. Jan Chabr would like to see similar events take place.

State of emergency - COVID-19

13.3.2020 — On Thursday, March 12, the Czech government approved the announcement of an emergency situation throughout the Czech Republic. Emergency is declared for 30 days. Since March 16, Czech government declared ban on traveling abroad and entry of foreigners into the Czech Republic from all around the world. The measures are in effect until further notice. 8.12.2011 — Zastupitel Jan Kalousek přijal včera na Staroměstské radnici světoznámého amerického fotografa Davida LaChapelle, který přijel do Prahy u příležitosti zahájení velké retrospektivní výstavy „Tak pravil David LaChapelle / Thus Spoke LaChapelle“, která se koná v Galerii Rudolfinum v Praze od 7. prosince 2011 do 26. února 2012 a která prostřednictvím více než 120 fotografií představí příběh jeho třicetileté kariéry.

21.6.2007 — In 2006 the monitoring of up-to-date percentage of ticks infected with the aetiological agents of Lyme borreliosis and meningoencephalitis in the selected areas on the territory of Prague continued. The monitoring is purposefully aimed at the monitoring of activity of natural infection focuses under the Capital City conditions. The text is based on the chapter Monitoring of Lyme borreliosis and meningoencephalitis agents in ticks published in yearbook Prague Environment 2006.

Temporary suspension of tram lines between ‘Vozovna Motol’ and ‘Sídliště Řepy’

16.6.2019 — From the 15th to the 28th of June 2019, the operation of tram lines in Prague 17, Řepy, will be partially interrupted due to the replacement of parts of the tracks in the Prague 17 district.

New tags for the trees in Stromovka

20.9.2020 — There are 203 species of deciduous and 44 species of coniferous trees in Stromovka in Prague, making the former game reserve one of the richest in tree species diversity in the Czech Republic. Many trees in Stromovka now have new labels as part of the project 'Trees you want to know'. 134 nameplates were installed on 94 tree species in the central part of the Royal Game Reserve. Therefore, visitors to Stromovka can now learn about a total of 18 species of oak, for example. One of the white oaks growing in the park is even the oldest of its species in the Czech Republic.

22.7.2020 — As part of the 26th annual Days of the Art of the Blind festival ('Dny umění nevidomých'), Czech Blind United holds an exhibition 'Barevné hrátky' (Colorful Games) by Markéta Evjáková in Týnská Literary Café. The exhibition will take place between the 4th and the 29th of August.

Berliner Philharmoniker New Year’s Eve Concert

31.12.2018 — For the eighth time, the traditional New Year's Eve Gala Concert of the Berlin Philharmonic. Orchestra will be broadcasted live to cinemas all over the world, the Lucerna cinema in Prague being one of them. Ring in the New Year a little bit differently in 2018! The Berliner Philharmoniker is one of the most important symphonic orchestras in the world. Much of their fame is due to the legendary conductor Herbert von Karajan. In the Gramophone's review of The World's 20 Greatest Orchestras, critics rated the orchestra as the second-best in the world.

Young jazz musicians will perform in Malostranská beseda

11.9.2019 — On the 12th of September, Magnum Jazz Bigband will perform at the famous club Malostranská beseda on Malostranské Square. Magnum Jazz Bigband has a broad repertoire, playing everything from swing to modern jazz.
