Open-air concert on Hradčanské Square: one of Czech Philharmonic’s biggest events
On the 19th of June, Czech Philharmonic's open-air concert will take place in the breath-taking atmosphere of Prague's Hradčanské Square. The concert is one of the most attractive events of the music season.
Czech Philharmonic - the most important Czech symphony orchestra - belongs with its unique identity among the gems of world music. If you are a fan of this musical ensemble, you have surely noticed that they are getting even better and better from year to year. The Czech music teacher and manager David Mareček, the orchestra’s CEO, has a great share in their success. He will be the host of the open-air concert on the 19th of June in Hradčanské Square.
"The open-air concert is truly a gift to our audience - both regulars and those who come to Prague in June just to see it. We always alternate, with a Czech programme one year and internationally popular the next, slightly inspired by jazz or musicals. It is the international programme that awaits us at this year's concert,” David Mareček said.
Film compositions
On the crowded Hradčanské Square, where several thousand people gather every year, over 120 musicians will perform their seventh open-air concert. They will play renowned compositions from films such as ‘Hedwig's Theme’ from Harry Potter by the American composer John Williams. This well-known composer was awarded several Academy Awards. His music for Star Wars is considered to be the best 20th-century score by the American Film Institute. He is also the author of some of the others compositions on the evening’s programme, such as ‘The Raider's March’ from Indiana Jones, and legendary music from Star Wars and Schindler’s List.
The concert will be two hours long and will be broadcast live by Czech Television. Admission is free and it will be played in almost any weather.
