World Wildlife Day in Prague Zoo

World Wildlife Day will be celebrated in Prague Zoo in Troja on Saturday the 7th of March. Although World Wildlife Day is on the 3rd of March, Prague Zoo is celebrating on the closest Saturday - the 7th of March. World Wildlife Day is on the 3rd of March because an important CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) meeting of representatives from 80 countries was held in the US on the 3rd of March 1973.

CITES defends animals and plants

CITES protects approximately 5,000 animal species and about 29,000 taxons of plants from the threat of extinction due to their excessive use in trade in 180 countries. The Czech Republic joined CITES in 1992.

Celebrate wildlife

World Wildlife Day is a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the diverse beauty of nature, while highlighting the importance of conservation for humanity. Sustainability will be a central theme to the celebrations.

A workshop, where visitors can enrich the natural environment for the animals using recyclable materials will be held, and visitors of all ages will have the opportunity to play ecologically-themed games, and they will be also able to contribute their ideas for nature conservation.
