Cirk La Putyka’s Homecoming
The contemporary circus ensemble Cirk La Putyka is celebrating its 10th anniversary. As part of the celebrations, they decided to return with three of their successful productions to their original venues: La Fabrika, Archa Theatre and the New Stage of the National Theatre's New Stage in October and November.
Cirk La Putyka currently performs in Jatka78 in the Prague Market in Holešovice. However, the artistic director Rosťa Novák Jr. is preparing an exceptional project on the occasion of its 10th anniversary, three of their most successful productions over the years will be performed in the premises where they were originally created and premiered: ‘Up End Down’ will be performed in La Fabrica, ‘La Putyka’ in Archa Theatre, and ‘Slapstick Sonata’ will have a final performance on the National Theatre’s New Stage.
Archa Theatre and La Fabrika
Cirk La Putyka spent six years in La Fabrika, from April 2009 to May 2015, where they put on 355 performances. The production ‘Up End Down’ was performed ninety-five times, and it will be performed there again on the 9th and 10th of October.
In Archa Theatre, Cirk La Putyka will perform their very first production, called ‘La Putyka’, from the 24th to the 26th of October.
First international experience
The last part of the project will take place on the 25th of November in the National Theatre’s New Stage. ‘Slapstick Sonata’, which had 158 reprises, 65 of them abroad–the show has pleased audiences in Germany, Poland, Croatia, Finland, the USA, the Netherlands, Israel and Italy. This was the circus’ first experience with a foreign director, Maksim Komar, and also their first international cooperation with Circo Aereo.
The performance was co-produced by the National Theatre in Prague with the National Theatre in Helsinki.
Celebrations will go on throughout autumn
The ensemble’s 10th anniversary celebrations will go on throughout autumn, and they will include ‘Don’t Quixote’, a new production by Cirk La Putyka, a projection of ‘Up End Down Symphony’ accompanied live by the Film Philharmonic Orchestra, and the premiere of ‘Na Krev’, a documentary by Czech Television.
The performance ‘Don’t Quixote’ will be premiered on the 1st of October in Jatka78 and will re-connect three former classmates from the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU), Martin Kukučka and Lukáš Trpišovský, who work together as the directing team SKUTR, and Cirk La Putyka’s Rosťa Novák.
