Earth Hour in Prague

The lights will go out in ten major buildings to highlight the importance of the climate in the past, present and future.

The centre of Prague will plunge into darkness on Saturday, the 28th of March, between 9:30pm and 10:30pm. The lights of historical buildings and monuments will be turned off one by one, in chronological order, as part of the international Earth Hour. Each century of Prague’s history, from the twelfth to the twenty-first, will be represented by one construction. The objective is to demonstrate that without a suitable environment, it would be impossible to survive and create such a rich culture, and therefore that we must act on climate change today in order to protect our heritage for future generations.

The lights on the following buildings will gradually be turned off: Strahov Monastery, Old-New Synagogue, Charles Bridge, Old Town Hall, Lesser Town Bridge Tower, Clementinum, Estates Theatre, Rudolfinum, Čechův Bridge and the Memorial to the Victims of Communism.
